The Silverbacks season continued with a tough division opponent in the Genesee County Patriots but when the dust cleared and the crashing off helmets ended the team had walked away with their second win of the season 18-6. All scoring by London would come courtesy of first year players.
London started out well jumping to a nine point lead in the first quarter on a touchdown pass from QB Luke Zetazate to TE Jesse Wilson (PAT blocked) and a field goal by kicker Rob Eeuwes.
The special teams and defensive unit appeared to be really stepping it up adding another field goal and putting the Genesee County offense in a bind until a few poorly timed penalties in the 2nd quarter helped them get in to scoring range and a lob ball came down in the hands of a Patriots receiver with less than 10 seconds to go in the half to give them what would be their only score of the game.
Entering the 3rd quarter with the score 12-6 Silverbacks both teams would battle hard in the third quarter getting multiple opportunities for points before the defense stepped up to close the door. Finally in the 4th quarter London came out and put the game away on two great passes from qb Bruce Jones to Freddie Pompey Jr. including an acrobatic catch that saw Pompey make the reception while on his back after tangling with the defender. The second pass would put the game away for London at 18-6.
This dramatic defensive battle set the stage for the ‘Backs to return home to face their division rival and 2006 division winning Michigan Admirals. London has had a tough history against the Ads letting them slip away in very close games including last years regular season finale where Michigan won 24-23 in part due to a missed convert with 6 seconds left in the game. A revamped and revitalized Silverbacks squad believes wholly that this may be year where history is changed and it will begin Saturday, August 4 7pm at their Labatt Park home debut.Box Score
